From Luckytrip to Travelgage: My Journey as a Travel Enthusiast

Updated: May 26, 2023

My name is Ewan and I'm the founder and director of Travelgage. I was born and raised in London, England, but now I reside in Hampshire with my wife. As a child, I was always curious about exploring and discovering more in life, especially coming from a small village. Travel became a hobby and passion that I fell in love with.

Bled lakes "Castle Hostel"

At 18, my parents decided to move out of London, leaving me unsure of what was next. With only £250 in my pocket, I downloaded the Luckytrip app and took a chance on the first trip that it suggested, which led me to Slovenia for the weekend. This trip was life-changing for me as it opened my eyes to a new world of opportunities and experiences.

During my weekend in Bled, I stayed at a hostel and met people who were travelling the world full-time while working remotely from their laptops. This experience amazed me and I knew I wanted to create something that would connect like-minded individuals who love to travel.

"The Travelgage Couch"

From my parents' sofa, I spent a month writing out a plan for a community and company that would bring together travel enthusiasts from all over the world. After much hard work, the Travelgage community was born, and hundreds of like-minded travellers started using the hashtag “Travelgage” to share their travel content on WhatsApp and Instagram.

Unfortunately, my momentum dwindled due to my lack of experience in marketing, business, and networking. However, this setback led me to the field of digital marketing, where I ran an agency in Arizona for two years, gaining valuable knowledge and experience.

When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, my business took a huge hit and I was put on a UK ‘Furlough’ scheme. But during this time, I found my faith and married the love of my life, who shares my passion for travel. In fact, we just returned from our honeymoon in Lanzarote.

Together, we have decided to revive Travelgage and with our combined experience, we hope to continue what was started on my parents' couch five years ago. We are excited about what the future holds and look forward to welcoming more like-minded individuals into the Travelgage family.
